Flooring FAQ

Flooring Materials & Choices

  • Which flooring is best for high-traffic areas in my DFW home?

Luxury vinyl plank (LVP), porcelain tile, and quality laminate are our top picks for hallways, kitchens, and family rooms. They resist scratches, moisture, and daily wear while still looking great for years. Our team will recommend the right option based on your lifestyle and budget.

  • How much does hardwood flooring installation cost in the DFW area?

Most hardwood projects in the DFW area run between $7 and $14 per square foot installed — material included. Wide-plank European oak, hand-scraped boards, and site-finished hardwood sit at the higher end. We give every customer a detailed itemized quote after a free in-home measure so there are no surprises.

  • What's the difference between porcelain and ceramic tile?

Porcelain is a denser, harder-fired version of ceramic. It's more durable, almost 100% water-resistant, and a better pick for kitchens, bathrooms, and outdoor patios. Ceramic is softer, slightly cheaper, and works well in low-traffic interior rooms like guest bathrooms and powder rooms.

  • Is marble flooring practical for a family home?

Yes — if it's sealed correctly and you pick the right type. Honed (matte) marble hides scratches better than polished marble, and darker marbles like Emperador are more forgiving than white Calacatta. All our marble installs include a penetrating sealer and a care-and-cleaning guide so the floor stays protected for years.

  • Can I install hardwood directly over a concrete slab?

Engineered hardwood, yes — solid hardwood, generally no. Engineered boards have a stable plywood core that can be glued down or floated over concrete once we've installed a proper vapor barrier. Solid hardwood expands and contracts too much for slab installs, so for slab-on-grade homes we always recommend engineered.

  • Are epoxy garage floors worth the investment?

Absolutely — a professional polyaspartic or epoxy garage coating outlasts any store-bought paint kit by 10× or more. It resists oil, hot tires, salt, and chemicals, wipes clean in seconds, and instantly turns a dusty gray slab into a showroom-finish surface. Most garages are finished in 1–2 days.

  • How do I pick the right wood color for my house?

Three rules: (1) match the undertone of your trim and cabinets (warm with warm, cool with cool), (2) go one or two shades darker than your largest piece of furniture so the floor grounds the room, and (3) always test stain samples on your actual floor — lighting changes everything. We bring samples and apply them on-site so you see the real result before committing.

  • How often should hardwood floors be refinished?

A properly finished solid hardwood floor can be refinished every 10–15 years and still have plenty of wear layer left. Engineered hardwood can be refinished 1–3 times depending on the wear-layer thickness. If your floor is scratched and dull but structurally sound, refinishing saves 60–70% vs. full replacement.

  • Are your floors pet- and kid-friendly?

Yes — we help families pick materials that handle claws, spills, and daily chaos. Rigid-core luxury vinyl plank (LVP) and porcelain tile are the most pet-/kid-proof options. For families who want real wood, wire-brushed or hand-scraped hardwood hides scratches far better than a glossy smooth surface.

  • How long does a typical flooring installation take?

Most residential projects are completed in 2–5 days, depending on square footage, subfloor condition, and material type. Hardwood and tile generally take a bit longer than LVP or laminate. We'll give you a clear timeline before work begins.

  • Do you provide free in-home estimates?

Yes — we offer free, no-obligation estimates across Southlake, Keller, Grapevine, Colleyville, Westlake, and the surrounding DFW area. We measure on-site, discuss material choices, and provide a written quote the same or next day.

  • Can you install new floors over existing flooring?

In some cases, yes — LVP and laminate can sometimes go over tile or vinyl if the surface is level and sound. Hardwood and tile typically require removing the old flooring. We inspect your subfloor before recommending an approach.

Installation & Service

  • What is the difference between engineered hardwood and solid hardwood?

Solid hardwood is one solid piece of wood and can be refinished multiple times. Engineered hardwood has a real wood veneer over a plywood core, offering better dimensional stability in humid or below-grade spaces. Both are excellent — the right choice depends on where it's being installed.

  • Is waterproof vinyl plank really waterproof?

Yes — quality LVP has a 100% waterproof core, making it ideal for kitchens, bathrooms, laundry rooms, and basements. Spills and occasional flooding won't damage the planks, though proper installation still matters for long-term performance.

  • How should I prepare my home before installation day?

Clear furniture and personal items from the rooms being floored (we can help move larger pieces for an additional fee). Pets should be kept away from the work area. We'll cover vents and protect adjacent rooms from dust.

  • Do you offer warranties on your flooring installations?

Yes. Our installation work is warrantied, and all materials we sell carry the manufacturer's warranty. We'll walk you through the specific coverage for your chosen product before you sign.

  • Which neighborhoods and cities do you serve?

We serve Southlake, Keller, Grapevine, Colleyville, Westlake, Trophy Club, Roanoke, and the greater Dallas–Fort Worth metroplex. If you're nearby, just ask — we're often happy to travel for the right project.

  • Do you offer financing for flooring projects?

Yes — we partner with financing providers that offer 0% interest promotional terms for qualified customers, plus longer-term fixed-rate options. We can run a soft credit check that won't affect your score to show you real monthly numbers before you commit to the project.

  • Does your dustless sanding system really capture all the dust?

Our HEPA-filtered sanding system captures 95%+ of dust at the source, so your home stays clean and you can sleep in the same night we finish. There's no 2-day post-clean like with traditional sanding, and it's standard on every refinishing job at no extra cost.

  • Can you install flooring over radiant heat?

Yes — engineered hardwood, luxury vinyl plank, porcelain tile, and laminate are all radiant-heat compatible when the system is specified and ramped up correctly. We follow the floor manufacturer's moisture and temperature guidelines so warranties stay intact. Solid hardwood is generally not recommended over radiant heat.

  • Do you handle stair installations or refinishing separately?

Yes. We build and refinish hardwood stairs to match your existing floors — treads, risers, stringers, waterfall edges, and French-cap details. Converting carpeted stairs to matching hardwood is one of the fastest upgrades you can make in a two-story home.

  • Do you take on commercial or multi-family projects?

Yes — we install commercial LVT, carpet tile, VCT, rubber, polished concrete, and porcelain for offices, retail, restaurants, and apartment turnovers across the DFW metroplex. We carry the insurance, OSHA training, and Net-30 billing that commercial GCs expect.

  • How do I maintain my new hardwood or LVP floor?

Sweep or dry-mop daily, wipe spills promptly, and clean weekly with a pH-neutral hardwood or LVP cleaner on a barely-damp microfiber. Never use steam mops or ammonia-based cleaners on hardwood. We send every customer a material-specific care guide after installation.

  • What humidity range should I keep my home at for hardwood floors?

Aim for 35–55% relative humidity year-round. Dallas summers are humid and winters are dry, so a whole-home humidifier tied to your HVAC is a smart one-time investment for any hardwood install. Keeping humidity steady prevents gaps, cupping, and crowning over time.
